Why is running important for Functional Fitness?

Aerobic capacity and endurance are both key to perform in functional fitness.

Aerobic Capacity refers to your body's ability to efficiently use oxygen. The greater your aerobic capacity, the more intense exercise you can do while continuing to use oxygen to produce energy. Aerobic endurance, on the other hand, refers to how long you can perform moderately to highly intense exercise. Both help increasing your aerobic threshold.

In simple terms, having an increased aerobic threshold is key for being able to go longer and further.

The best way to develop your aerobic threshold is through steady-state effort training like running. This, combined with more traditional cross-training work, will then allow you to become more efficient in functional fitness workouts.
